Advanced Persistence issues
Added by Hugo Brand, last edited by Stephan Janssen on Nov 23, 2004  (view change)

Abstract

Persistence solutions and object-relational mapping for Plain Old Java Objects (POJO) have recently gained popularity with Java and J2EE developers.

This session will go beyond the basics of the so-called Object-relational "impedance-mismatch" and will cover in-depth typical issues with persistence solutions, including:

  • Transaction management and locking policies
  • Cache management: client-session caches vs shared-cache
  • Working with pooled connections and using database security
  • Working with distributed applications and clustered caches

We will discuss how the "impedance-mismatch" also applies to other areas of persistence, such as Java to XML mapping (JAXB), and how a persistence solution addressing this area is an essential technology for a Service-oriented architecture (SOA).
