Abstract

The standard crypto libraries as found in recent versions of J2SE do support all commonly used PKI services. These include the creation and validation of certificates and certificate revocation lists. However, some guarantees they provide are not sufficiently strong in production environments. The trustworthiness of a certificate chain is an example.

In this session, we will discuss smart card-based approaches which increase this trustworthiness, and illustrate them with examples from the eGovernment, home automation and telematics sector. We examine the role of smart cards in the brave new world of trusted computing.
