I dont agree with this! I am staying in UK currently but my card billing address is in India. And I cannot wait another 6 months to order. Personally I find the rule quiet silly! Can you please help..

Abhi.

Hi, this is a limitation of PayPal. Please order the DVD and mail me the correct shipping address to sja at bejug dot org. I'll make sure it gets shipped to your address in the UK

Hello Patrick,

As we ship the DVDs with regular snail mail, it does take some time (1 a 3 weeks, depending where you live) But your patience will get rewarded with some great content

Thanks for your interest ! Stephan

Hello,

I am not sure if I correctly ordered the DVDs. Do you send a confirmation email ? Is there another way to check this ?

Thanks,
Alexis

You get a confirmation email from PayPal when the paymant was successful which is also reflected in your paypal history. I've checked the PayPal history log and couldn't find your name...

I recently received the 2005 DVD. Its very useful, but I am missing few of the presentation in the DVD.

For example there is no presentation for Effective Java by Joshua Bolch and Effective Enterprise Java by Ted Neward.

Both these presentation are under University section.

Is these two presentation missed out in the DVD?

Thanks,
Murali

Unfortunately we had audio recording problems with that specific room during that day... luckily Floyd Marinescu recorded the Effective Java session with his DV camera and that session will get released later this week during the launch of InfoQ.com.

Stephan,

I am located in the U.S., and had a couple questions about this DVD. I want to learn Java, so have no experience with the language at all at this point. Is this DVD good for a beginner, or only for a more advanced Java developer?

Thanks,

Ed

Posted by Eddie Booher at May 22, 2006 11:45 | Permalink

Also, silly me, forgot to ask if this is available to be shipped to the U.S. as well?

Thanks again,

Ed

We ship the JavaPolis DVD to any country out there.. which is almost already the case

Posted by Stephan Janssen at May 23, 2006 08:38 | Permalink

These are video recordings of presentations on advanced subjects.
I don't think they will be very helpful for a beginner.
If in doubt, register and browse the slide PDF's - then you can more accurately assess
whether they would be useful.

Is there a way purchase the DVD without paying for the conference?

I purchased the DVD on April 30 and still have not received it. Is there a way I can track the item ?

Vallerie (vhi at bejug dot org) does all the coordination of the DVD shipping, you can always send her an email to verify when the DVD was shipped. However because we use normal (snail) mail and depending where you live it can take between 1 till 4 weeks !!! However your patience will get rewarded

Posted by Stephan Janssen at May 27, 2006 09:19 | Permalink

Stephen,

Vallerie confirmed the DVD was sent on May 03. My destination is US. Does it normally take

this long ?

Ninh

Hi, We've no tracking number because the DVD gets shipped through regular snail mail.
Please be patient for another few weeks as this does take 5 to 6 week to arrive in India.
Kind regards,

Hello Stephan

I have ordered this DVD on 22nd May and not received it so far. It is more than 3 weeks now and no response from Valerie for my emails regarding the shipping confirmation as well. Can you please look into this and do the needful. Thanks. (My shipping address located in CA, USA)

Posted by Srinivas Srirangan at Jun 17, 2006 02:54 | Permalink

Hi, shipment to the US can take up to 5 a 6 weeks because we mail the DVD through regular snail mail... Your patience will get rewarded

I finally have my JavaPolis DVD in hand, and must say it's great to have this resource as I couldn't make it along the actual event this year (cross-finger for '06).

Either an idea for next year's DVD, or a technical challenge for this year's, is there anyway of getting the presentations to play on an iPod video ? I'm not sure I can take enough 30 min breaks at work to get through all the content I'd like to, and home time is swtich off technical brain time for me, but these would be ideal commute time material !

I am guessing you'd have to go the way of modifying iPod firmware here (iPod linux etc...) as standard iPod can only do basic vids - can anyone help fill the technical gap here ?!?

Posted by Ben Turner at Jun 19, 2006 06:35 | Permalink

You can use your iPOD on the JavaPolis podcasts, which work great for me during commute !!!

Posted by Stephan Janssen at Jun 19, 2006 14:01 | Permalink

It is actually feasible to get the presentations playing on an Apple iPOD or a Sony PSP. We don't do this because we think that some of the presentations will be hardly readable on this platform due to the small screen. Ben could you drop me your E-mail at robin_at_mulkers_dot_com
Whenever we do a proof-of-concept for this, I will involve you as beta tester.

Took me a long time to get my DVD (I live in the US) but it was well worth the wait. Real good content from real good presenters. Highly recommended.

Stephan,

Order DVD in early May and still have not received anything. Payment cleared ok via Paypal. I have not recieved any communication about shipping as has been implied by some earlier comments.

I have the Paypal transaction ID. I've tried emailing but got no response.

Stephen, can you mail me at sja at bejug dot org so I can forward your request to admin ?!
Thanks in advance, Stephan

Hi, I ordered my copy in May as well, but havent received any notifications or delivery of the dvd since the paypal payment was accepted message.

Valerie will contact you ASAP through email...

Posted by Stephan Janssen at Jul 10, 2006 13:41 | Permalink

As rest people commenting here I have ordered the two dvd set (the date my account
was charged is 07/06/2006) but I didn't got any information about the actual shipping,
and of course I didn't get the package.

Posted by Adam Kruszewski at Jul 11, 2006 04:34 | Permalink

Adam, paypal gives you a confirmation that the payment was succesful and forwards that email to us. We then place some stamps on the JavaPolis DVD and ship the DVD through regular snail mail. Because this is regular snail mail we can't include a shipping number and the shipment can take between 4 a 6 weeks depending where you live. Hope this helps ?
