Creating Cross-Platform UI's That Don't Suck

Abstract

Qt Jambi is the Java version of the popular Qt C++ cross-platform framework by Trolltech. It includes a comprehensive class library and integrated development tools for high-end rich client application development.

Current Java GUI Toolkits provide highly verbose layout managers, where it is the programmers task to specify how components behave in the form of constraints. This often leads to extensive layout code that is hard to maintain because of its complexity and size or alternativly, layouts that work sub-optimally. Even though tools exist to remedy some of this, many developers find themselves writing UI's by hand.

In this presentation we will see some of the basic principles used in Qt Jambi, which simplifies the task of creating cross-platform
applications that look like they belong in the environment they are
running.
