Using OSGi to improve and maintain business applications

Abstract

This BOF will provide a good overview of how you can improve the robustness and quality of your business applications by using OSGi (http://www.osgi.org) and how it will help you maintain your already deployed application in the field. For those not familiar with the OSGi technology, a brief overview of OSGi and its core functionality will be presented. This will include the life cycle of Services, the dynamic discovery of dependent Services, the White Board Pattern, etc. The main focus of this talk will be on the advantages of using some of the companion services and technologies that are also specified by the OSGi Technology.

This will be done by giving an overview of the following items:

  • The Service Tracker
  • The Configuration Admin Service
  • The Event Admin Service
  • The Log Service
  • The Initial Provisioning Solution

After the presentation part of the BOF, we intend to start an open discussion on this topic and share ideas. This might be interesting for people already familiar with OSGi but also for people new to OSGi.
